Set up your own Gemini API key to start Crew voice practice
Crew Web does not require a separate Crew account for voice practice. Instead, the web app connects to Gemini using an API key that you provide. Free allowances, supported models and billing requirements depend on your Google project and chosen model.
Live voice uses your own Gemini API key. Free allowances and prices depend on Google. What to remember
- Create the key through Google AI Studio, not an unofficial seller.
- Verify it once in Crew's shared settings page.
- Never post the key in screenshots, chats or public code.
Step 1: Create a key in Google AI Studio
Sign in to Google AI Studio with your Google account. Select or create a project and generate a Gemini API key using the official setup flow.
Check the displayed quota and pricing before enabling billing, particularly for Gemini Live models. A free-tier option for one model does not guarantee free Live voice usage for every model.
Step 2: Verify the key in Crew
Open Crew's shared Settings, paste your Gemini API key, and complete verification. Allow microphone access when prompted. If you hear no audio, inspect site permissions and your output device.
Step 3: Start talking safely
Go to Crew Teacher or Crew Friends for live conversation. Each visitor uses their own key; don't share yours with other users. Monitor usage and costs in Google's tools.
